When I was about five, my mom gave me a pocket dictionary because I was constantly asking her what different words meant. That began my life-long obsession with words, grammar, and reading in general. I became an editor because the idea of reading books before anyone else made me giddy. Being able to obsess over grammar and spelling makes it even better!

Today's homonym is advice versus advise, these sound similar because both mean the same thing but one is a noun and the other is a verb.

Honestly, it seems like there are an endless number of rules for commas. The one I want to share today is the use of a comma at the end of a sentence to separate contrasting coordinate elements or to indicate a distinct pause.

This week's homonyms are allowed and aloud. When something is allowed, there is permission to do said thing. When something is said aloud, then it is said audibly or out loud.

There are two ways to check if adjectives are coordinate adjectives: Try reversing the order of adjectives, if they make sense when reversed they they are coordinate adjectives and should be separated by a comma. The second way is to place "and" between them, if it still reads correctly then they are coordinate adjectives.
